Federer and Nadal have been playing each other since 2004, and this rivalry is a significant part of both men's careers. They are the only men in the open era who have played each other in 7 Grand Slam finals, with Nadal leading 5-2. Their 2008 Wimbledon final has been lauded as the greatest match of all time by many long-time tennis critics, while many critics consider their rivalry to be the greatest in tennis history. Nadal leads head-to-head 13-7. (tennispassiontennis.blogspot.com - www.toonpool.com - caricatura.no.sapo.pt)

Theodor (Binyamin Ze’ev) Herzl (1860-1904), founded the Zionist political movement. He was born in Budapest in 1860, and educated in the spirit of the German Jewish Enlightenment, as a secular Jew, though his grandfather had been a friend of Rabbi Yehudah Alkalai, a proto-Zionist of an earlier era.

Actor David Carradine, a born seeker and cult idol who broke through as the willing student called “grasshopper” in the 1970s TV series “Kung Fu” and decades later as leader of an assassin squad in “Kill Bill,” was found dead Thursday in Thailand. Police said he appeared to have hanged himself.
The officer responsible for investigating the death, Teerapop Luanseng, said the 72-year-old actor was staying at a suite at the luxury Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel.
“I can confirm that we found his body, naked, hanging in the closet,” Teerapop said. He said police suspected suicide. (© 2009 The Associated Press - www.msnbc.msn.com - www.treebeard.net)

Remembering the June 4 tragedy
by Sim Kwang Yang Today marks the 20th anniversary of that tragic event when thousands of university students and lecturers were massacred on Tiananmen Square in Beijing.tiananmen china anniversary amid tight security 040609 01I can still remember my shock and pain when learning of the news 20 years ago. In China, as in any other country, the use of tanks and machine guns to mow down peaceful demonstrations demanding more democracy by unarmed citizens is a crime against humanity. I also remember the many debates with my Chinese friends in Malaysia 20 years ago. They said what China needed was the kind of economic liberalisation that Deng Xiaoping was pushing, and not democracy demanded by the demonstrators. People had to eat first, and people cannot eat democracy, they said. We agreed to disagree.
